🐾 Meet Pepper – 6-year-old Spaniel girl 🐾
Pepper is a beautiful 6-year-old Spaniel currently being fostered in an adult home in Gloucestershire, where she is living alongside other dogs.
She came into our care via a family member, after it became clear her previous owner was no longer able to meet her needs. Her background is quite different from most pet dogs — Pepper had never lived in a home and instead lived in an insulated shed outside.
Despite this, Pepper has made a truly lovely start to life indoors.
She has been with us just over a week and, during that time, has also been spayed, so she is currently recovering. Even so, she has adapted incredibly well — she has been clean in the house from the start and is happily sleeping in a crate in the kitchen with the other dogs.
Pepper is quietly social with other dogs. She is happy in their company and will rub alongside them, but she is not yet actively playing or interacting much. The same applies when out on walks — she is polite and calm around other dogs but not particularly interested in engaging.
With people, Pepper is very affectionate with those she knows, but she is understandably cautious with strangers, particularly men. She can be startled by sudden movements or noises, which can make her anxious. However, when things are calm and predictable, she relaxes beautifully. She adores her bed, which has become her safe place, and will settle contentedly nearby while you go about your day.
Pepper’s absolute joy in life is her walks.
This is where she truly comes into her own. She relaxes completely, showing her natural spaniel instincts — happily sniffing, exploring, and taking in the world around her. She has excellent recall and naturally keeps a close eye on you. She is also a very good traveller in the car.
It’s still early days for Pepper, and while she is not a complicated dog, she is a sensitive one. She can worry about whether she is doing the right thing and will often stay very close to you, walking right by your side and looking up for reassurance. With patience, kindness, and consistency, she is already making lovely progress — each day bringing small but meaningful steps forward.
The home Pepper needs:
An experienced home, ideally with rescue experience
Someone who understands dogs who may not have had a typical pet upbringing
A calm, patient environment where she can continue to build confidence
Another gentle dog of a similar size would be lovely, although the right home as an only dog may be considered
A home where someone is around most of the time, as she has likely spent long periods alone in the past
Health-wise, Pepper is doing well. She is recovering from her spay, has started her vaccinations, and is microchipped, wormed, and flea treated.
Pepper is a truly special little soul — gentle, sensitive, and quietly devoted. With the right home, she will continue to blossom into a wonderfully loyal companion.
