Moss – 13-year-old Springer Spaniel

Currently being fostered in an adult home in Gloucestershire, living with other dogs and regular visiting dogs.
Sweet Moss has just entered our care after spending her entire life as a working gundog. At 13 years old, everything she’s ever known has changed. Unsurprisingly, she’s confused and anxious, not understanding this sudden shift — but even in these early days, she’s showing the resilience that dogs so often do.
She’s a quiet, gentle soul, with the softest nature and not a bad bone in her body. Watching her try to make sense of this new world is both moving and heartbreaking — but we’re already seeing flickers of hope. She takes comfort in the calm presence of other dogs, and when the smell of chicken hits the air, there’s even a little tail wag.
Moss has already been to the Vet’s, where it was discovered that her mouth was in a dreadful state — full of rotten, infected teeth, with a hole where the infection had eaten through. Surgery was necessary, though thankfully much of the dental work was easy, as many of the teeth fell out with barely a touch. She’s now on strong antibiotics and we’re hopeful she’ll soon feel so much better.
We know she faces an uphill battle — a 13-year-old spaniel who has never known the comfort of family life — but we also know that somewhere out there is someone with a soft spot for the oldies. Someone who will see beyond the years and offer her the quiet, loving retirement she so deserves.
It’s very early days, and Moss is still under assessment, but we hope to share updates as she begins to settle and understand that this new life might just be the best part of all.
She is so gentle and welcoming of new people who have come to say a gentle hi
