Maisie – approx. 2 years old – Shih Tzu

Being fostered in an adult home in Gloucestershire with other dogs.

Maisie was apparently found near Bristol, unable to use her back legs, and was taken to a vets by the people who supposedly found her. It was clear the injury was recent, with no signs of long-term dragging or neglect.

Her future was in the balance, but the Dog Warden asked the vets to give her the weekend on pain relief to see if she would recover. By Monday, Maisie was walking again — a little wonky, but an amazing recovery in just a few days. We suspect she may have been accidentally sat on, dropped or fallen on.

After completing her seven days in the pound, Maisie came into our care. She has now started her vaccinations, been treated for ear infections and, for now, we are monitoring her legs. She is still a little unsteady, but as you can see from her videos, she is doing really well and we will see how she progresses over the next few weeks.

Maisie is a lovely little dog. She is sweet-natured with both people and dogs and has settled into home life beautifully. She is house-trained, sleeps happily in her crate and loves being around the other dogs — although they are currently being told they can’t play with her! She is also in season, which isn’t helping her flirting with the boys!

She travels well in the car, has already enjoyed a trip to the local garden centre and is proving to be a real little character.

Maisie is still under assessment, but so far she is doing brilliantly. We will update her profile as we get to know her better.
